Outcome 2012
During the period from 16 to 23 of September 2012 the Second International school on satellite navigation took place under the support of the Federal Space Agency. The School was organized by JSC “Russian Space Systems”, Moscow aviation institute, Ryazan state radiotechnical university, JSC “NIS GLONASS”, GLONASS/GNSS-Forum Association.
The School chose for its venue the Ryazan region which is at the forefront of implementing the GLONASS system in Russia. The inauguration ceremony of the School timed to the 155th anniversary of cosmonautics theoretician and founder Konstantin Tsiolkovsky took place in his memorial house in the village of Izhevskoe, Ryazan region.
The School started with congratulations made by heads of leading rocket and space companies, representatives of local government bodies, the head of the ESA’s Russian office, welcoming speech was made by a pilot-cosmonaut, Hero of the Soviet Union A. Berezovoy.
Inna Brindikova a deputy director general of JSC “Russian space systems” stressed: “GLONASS is both necessary and advantageous. It is necessary from the security standpoint and it is advantageous from the point of view of social and economic development. GLONASS is the most significant innovation project of contemporary Russia which allows us be proud both of our intelligence and of our scientific potential. It is symbolic that inauguration opening of the School is timed to the 155th anniversary of outstanding pioneer in the history of the mankind - Konstantin Tsiolkovsky. His words that all our sensible and good deeds as well as our wellbeing are based on the knowledge should become a motto of the School.”
The representative of JSC “NIS-GLONASS” said: “Navigation is one of the most young innovation fields. Currently Russia outpaces the whole world for its rates of space technologies development already. Satellite navigation technologies are actively engaged in various economic fields ranging from construction to agriculture. Teaching fundamentals of space navigation to young specialists is a very important strategic avenue for Russia. Meeting the problem of ensuring personnel support for space navigation systems application will raise the efficiency of the companies and thus reinforce the economy of the Russian Federation in general.”
The study program was developed taking into account successful experience of the First school in 2011. The attendees listened to the course on application of satellite navigation technologies, use of earth remote sensing technologies, practiced in land surveying, making inventories and planning, transport management, monitoring construction sites and engineering constructions tasks.
The set of lectures started with the lecture by Grigory G. Stupak, deputy director general-designer general of JSC “Russian Space Systems” and deputy designer general of the GLONASS system. This lecture outlined historic background of the GLONASS creation and development, overviewed current situation of satellite navigation and its further areas of development.
The lecture on the ERS systems was delivered by Victor Selin, deputy director general-designer general, ERS of JSC “Russian Space Systems”. The attendees received at the first hand the information on purposes and objectives of the Russian ERS system for the period up to 2025, as well as info on integrated usage of GLONASS and GPS.
The professor of the Moscow state university on geodesy and cartography and executive director of “GLONASS/GNSS-Forum” Association Anatoliy Kupriyanov delivered the lecture on “Application of satellite systems for high-accurate positioning”. Special attention was devoted to the overview of accuracy ranges of various satellite methods and technologies, new engineering solutions relating to use of precise ephemeris and to correction of time scales directly in high-accurate user equipment.
Representatives of “Rusnavgeoset”, a joint company between JSC “RSS” and Trimble (a leader in GLONASS/GPS receivers production) shared the information on development of reference stations networks using high-accurate professional GLONASS/GPS equipment on the territory of the Russian Federation.
Apart from abovementioned organizations specialists from FSUE “Central research institute of machine building”, the Moscow aviation institute, M2M group of companies, the Moscow state automobile and road technical university, Russian State Agrarian University-Moscow Timiryazev Agricultural Academy and others delivered lectures.
The number of domestic and foreign companies interested in the School compared to 2011 increased. 56 specialists from 12 Russian regions and Kazakhstan attended the school.
